Richard E. "Dick" Schmidt, 82, Moose Lake, passed away Wednesday, May 16, 2018. He was born April 9, 1936 in La Valle, WI to Emery and Dorothy (Tait) Schmidt.
Richard was a 1954 Moose Lake High School graduate. He enlisted and served for the US Marines from 1955-58. Richard married Janet Wicklund June 17, 1959 and they had 58 plus years together. He worked 30 plus years for creamery's as the head pasteurizer of dairy products retiring from Franklin Foods in 1986. Richard was well known and received awards for his pasteurizing expertise. After retiring he continued working for the State of MN as a maintenance person at highway Rest Stops.
Richard's hobbies included going to auctions where the auctioneers always knew him by his first name. He had two Springer Spaniel dogs throughout his life that were very special to him. He collected dairy/creamery equipment and milk bottles. In his later years he loved to watch and feed birds from his yard.
Richard is survived by his wife Janet; sisters Jan Dahlen, Dell (Jack) Felde; brothers Vern (Kim) and Daniel (Betsy) Schmidt; numerous nieces and nephews; He was preceded in death by his parents; Sister Donna Zeller; brothers Kenny, Dwayne, Jerry, Bobby and Roger Schmidt.
Funeral services will be held at 11:00 a.m. Monday, May 21, 2018 in Emmanuel Evangelical Lutheran Church, Barnum, with visitation one hour prior to services at the church. Military honors will be accorded by the Moose Lake Honor Guard. Interment will be in the Riverside Cemetery, Moose Lake.
Arrangements are with Hamlin-Hansen-Kosloski Funeral Home, Moose Lake.
