Rick "The Legend" Peterson
Rick "The Legend" Peterson, 61, Moose Lake, died Tuesday, December 13, 2016 in Essentia-St. Mary's Hospital, Duluth with his family by his side. He was born on November 14, 1955 in Moose Lake to Allen and Darlene Peterson. Rick grew up in Moose Lake graduating from Moose Lake High School in 1973. He worked for the Soo Line Railroad, Moose Lake Golf Course, drove school bus for Moose Lake School, and subbed as a mail carrier in the Kettle River area until 1992 when he became full time mail carrier. In 1997, Rick was honored for National Good Deed of the Month for going that extra mile for his rural mail customers. He was later recognized by Country Magazine for his good deeds and received a trip to Alaska. Rick also hobby farmed through the years, loved working in his shop, collected gas engines and tractors, liked cutting wood, and was proud to make square bales with his Super 77 square baler. Rick enjoyed going with his family to fall threshing shows especially in Esko and Rock Creek. He loved giving his grandchildren tractor rides and teaching them to drive the garden tractors. For many years, Rick played softball and had earned the nickname "The Legend" for the many outstanding plays he made in left field. He continued playing in the Old Timers League for ETC and his teammates couldn't wait until the game was over to hear one of his many stories that he loved to share about softball, the Soo Line, or deer hunting.
Rick was a member of the Evangelical Covenant Church of Moose Lake and its Council. He also served as a Silver Twp. Supervisor and volunteered at the Moose Lake Historical Society and as a Little League Coach. He was a selfless, good hearted man whom was dedicated to his family and farm and will be greatly missed by many.
Rick was preceded in death by his father, Allen Peterson; brother, Allen Dale Peterson; and his father-in-law: Florian Gresczyk.
He will be lovingly remembered by his wife of 28 years, Cheryl; four children: Sarah (Steve) Aldrich of Woodbury; Matt (Katie) Delly of Bangalore, India; Ryan Peterson of Duluth; and Tyler Peterson of Moose Lake; five grandchildren: Stella, Jack, and Henry Aldrich and Olivia and Emmett Delly; mother: Darlene Peterson of Moose Lake; mother-in-law: Arlene Gresczyk of Moose Lake; brother: Russell (Renee) Peterson and their children: Makaela, Nick, Chantel, and Zach; numerous nieces, nephews, cousins, friends and his special buddy, Buck.
