Obituary

Robert "Bob" "Soren" Sorensen, 82, of Sturgeon Lake, died Thursday, April 23, 2009, in North Memorial Medical Center, Robbinsdale. He was born November 4, 1926, in Bankcroft, Nebraska to Peter and Emma (Brue) Sorensen. Bob is a Navy veteran of WWII. Bob was united in marriage to his first wife, Arlene Winders on June 24, 1948 in St. Paul and his second wife, Nancy (Rundquist) Timonen on May 10, 1997 in Birch Creek Township. Bob was a self employed contractor, carpenter, woodworker and cabinet maker. He also farmed for many years. Bob was a member of the Beefalo Association and the Sturgeon Lake – Denham American Legion Post #361. He enjoyed hunting, fishing, golfing, traveling, playing cards, dancing, dining out, anything outdoors and especially spending time with family and friends.

Bob is preceded in death by his first wife, Arlene; his parents; 3 sisters; 1 brother.

Bob is survived by his loving wife, Nancy of Sturgeon Lake; 2 sons, Robert (Lana) Sorensen of Zimmerman and Russ (Betty) Sorensen of McGregor; 3 daughters, Connie (Curt) Grams of Elk River, Diane (Bill) Pelto of McGregor and Mary (Bob) Pelto of McGregor; step children, Lauri (Michele) Timonen, Michael (Jay) Timonen, Kathy (Steve) Garner and Beth Gelhar; 20 grandchildren, Joe, Katie, Jeff, Kevin, Jim, Alyssa, Myles, Jill, Beau, Kaija, Elias, Chad, Vikki, Eric, Rachel, Kristin, Zackary, Mary, Samuel and Maxwell; 8 great grandchildren; 1 sister, Lois (Peter) Schmidt of Oakland, NE; 2 brothers, Melvin (Florence) Sorensen of St. Francis and Gary (Carol) Sorensen of Princeton; 1 sister-in-law, Patty Minett of Russell; many nieces and nephews; dog, Bandit; special neighbors, Kenny and Carleen Halvorson and Maynard and Jane Ahonen.

A gathering of family and friends was Monday, April 27 from 6-8 PM with a Service of Remembrance at 7:30 PM in Hamlin-Hansen-Kosloski Funeral Home, Moose Lake and continued Tuesday, April 28 from 10 AM until the 11 AM Memorial Service in Faith Lutheran Church, Birch Creek Township with Pastor Paul Reiff officiating. Military Honors were provided by Sturgeon Lake – Denham American Legion Post #361. Bob's grandchildren were the Honorary Bearers. Inurnment will be at a later date.
