Roberta "Bert" Horton
Roberta "Bert" Horton, 51, Willow River, died at her home on Monday, December 29, 2008. She was born on September 2, 1957 to Bob and Jeanette (Hennager) Shelton in Moose Lake. Bert went to Moose Lake School graduating in 1975. On September 27, 1975, Roberta married Michael Horton in Sturgeon Lake. They worked together to build the Horton Sawmill in Willow River which they owned and operated. For the past 11 years, Bert worked as a lead teller at the Lake State Federal Credit Union in Moose Lake where she truly enjoyed working with her credit union family. Bert was known as a fun loving unforgettable person with a great sense of humor. She enjoyed spending time with her family and friends whether it was in person or chatting on the phone for hours. Bert also was the #1 fan of Mikey's Softball Team and always enjoyed watching their games. She also enjoyed watching the Minnesota Vikings and the Minnesota Twins. Bert loved her coffee and Gameboy as she watched her favorite show of "All My Children". She also loved to travel with her husband, family, and mother-in-law, Betty Horton. Her nights out with the girls were always an adventure and a good time.
Bert was preceded in death by her grandparents: Leonard & Henrietta Hennager and Richard & Minty Shelton.
She will be lovingly remembered by her husband of 33 years, Mike; her son: Lance (Gina) of Willow River and Gina's children: Jason and Samantha; her daughter: Stacey Horton of Sandstone; her granddaughter: Dominique Horton of Willow River; her parents: Bob & Jeanette Shelton of Sturgeon Lake; her four siblings: Tim (Lucky) Shelton of Sturgeon Lake and their son Kyle; Cindy (Dick) Balut of Willow River and their children: Theresa, Richard II, Tara, and Tracy; Chris (Ralph) LaPenotiere of Rutledge; and Tom (Tammy) Shelton of Sturgeon Lake and their children: Andrew and Aaron; her special Aunts: Marilyn "Nana" Hennager and Bonnie Hays both of Moose Lake; and numerous other Aunts, Uncles, In-Laws, Cousins, and Friends whom Bert truly loved.
The family would like to thank everyone for the outpouring of love and support during this difficult time.
There was a Memorial Visitation from 5-8 PM Tuesday, January 6, 2009 in Hamlin-Hansen-Kosloski Funeral Home, Moose Lake. A Memorial Service was held on Wednesday, January 7, 2009 at 11 AM in Hope Lutheran Church, Moose Lake. Wendy Hjelmberg, AIM Family Ministry will officiate.
