Obituary

Roger Curtis Halverson Sr.
March 14, 1936 - October 27, 2023

It is with great sadness that we announce the passing of Roger at 87 years old. Our own personal superhero left this world very peacefully in the presence of his daughter and son.

Roger was born in Wisconsin and grew-up in Northern Minnesota. After graduating high school he became an air craft electrician in the U.S. Air Force. Stationed at Luke Air Force Base, Roger also worked as a projector operator at the local movie theater in Glendale, AZ where he met Maryln who worked the candy counter. The two would soon marry and remain so for the next 65 years (until his passing), raising three children.

After the Air Force, Roger worked on the Glen Canyon Dam and then onto a 30+ year career in HVAC (retiring from Peterson Mechanical). More importantly he will be remembered for his love of Christmas decorating and the joy his mechanical creations brought to generations of Christmas light lovers for over 50 years. Though his Christmas display started very small, he always jokingly blamed his son Ryan's birth in 1980 as the reason for the escalation saying, "As soon as Ryan came along it was Dad let's build this, Dad let's build that."

Roger loved his family unconditionally in the most genuine way possible, always smiling, and always ready to help anyone he could. Beyond Holiday decorating, he loved building anything mechanical, restoring vintage cars, building and racing race cars, Ghostbusters props, and everything in between. A lover of sports, his favorite teams were the Minnesota Vikings and L.A. Dodgers. His favorite race car driver was Bill Elliott. Above all else though, he was an amazing and dedicated Dad, whose love for life was infectious.

Roger is survived by his wife Maryln, daughter Mary, son Ryan, grandson Ryder, two brothers, three sisters, and numerous nieces & nephews. He was preceded in death by his son Roger Curtis Jr., parents Carl & Aileen, brothers Jack & Terry, and sister Joyce.

Roger's family would like to thank the staff at Primrose Alzheimer's Living for the compassionate and unwavering care Roger and his family received during his final year of life.

A private celebration of Roger's life will be held in the future. If you wish to honor Roger, please put up an extra string (or 20) of Christmas lights this year.
