Obituary

Ronald Anselm Luoma, 80, of Maryville, TN, formerly of Moose Lake, MN, passed away at home on February 27th, 2019, after a brief illness.

He was born at home in Itasca County, MN on August 23rd, 1938 to Anselm and Saima (Antilla) Luoma and lived most of his 80 years in Minnesota. Ron attended Trout Lake Elementary and later graduated from Greenway High School in 1956.  He went to Itasca Community College and graduated in 1960 from Concordia College with a degree in Education.  Ron taught 6th grade in Glencoe.  He returned to Mankato State to become an elementary school principal and later worked in Aitkin from 1970-1975.  Ron completed his lifelong career in education as a superintendent of schools and worked in several schools including Hill City from 1975-1980, McGregor from 1980-1991, and also Barnum from 1991-1996.  Ron was a devoted husband to Carol (Lidburg Carlson) for nearly 33 years. They enjoyed traveling and collecting antiques. He was a Charter President of the Hill City Lions Club, member of the Glencoe Jaycees, and served on boards at Hope Lutheran Church and the MN Association of School Administrators.  Ron was an avid hunter, fisherman, and golfer and was very proud of his 2 Hole-In-Ones and a double eagle. He also enjoyed bowling and playing poker with his buddies. In the last year of his life, he moved to Tennessee to be closer to his family, and became a beloved resident of Parkview Senior Living. He is preceded in death by an infant brother, his parents, his wife Carol and her four children, a sister, Shirley Ogden, and two brothers-in-law, Dale Ogden, and Billy Trobec. Ron will be sadly missed by his children, Melissa (Randy) Carter and Jon (Sharleen) Luoma, his siblings Larry (Jane) Luoma, and Joyce Trobec, his grandchildren Seth and Kendra Carter, JR Reeves, Hunter and Spencer Doggett, Thomas and Matthew Miles, Amanda and Ryan Jennie, and his great grandchildren Sable and Shaw Doggett.

A Memorial Service will be held On Friday, May 10, 2019 at 11 am in Hope Lutheran Church in Moose Lake. A Gathering of Family and Friends will be held from 10 until the 11 am service at the church.  Memorials are welcome to Blount Memorial Hospice. Private Inurnment will be held in Lakeview Cemetery, Aitkin.
