Roy Schober
Roy Schober, 95, Willow River, died Thursday, July 7, 2016 in Mercy Hospital, Moose Lake. He was born on May 16, 1921 to John and Alma Schober in Elrosa, MN where he grew up and attended school. Roy worked on his parent's farm prior to entering the Army in 1942 where he served as a WWII Veteran. After being Honorably Discharged in 1945, Roy worked at Ford Motor Company in St. Paul. On August 7, 1948, Roy married Shirley Gjelhaug in New London, MN. He later worked for Minneapolis Moline until he began his 20-year career with Great Northern Railroad. In 1979, Roy moved east of Willow River where he enjoyed gardening, farming, hunting, fishing, and trapping. He also had an incredible passion for John Deere tractors and would often purchase tractors in parts and assemble them to a completed project. Roy loved his family and looked forward to visiting with his grandkids and attending their special events.
He was preceded in death by his parents: John and Alma Schober; sister: Lorraine; and brother: Daniel.
Roy will be lovingly remembered by his wife of 67 years, Shirley; four children: Bill of Yuma, AZ; Sharee (Jim) Almsted of Plymouth; Nyla (Kevin) Castagneri of Elk River; and Jenny (Mike) O'Masta of Eagan; 6 grandchildren: David, Jeff, Nathan, Blake, Grace, and Olivia; brother: Dan Flipsen of Sauk Rapids; and numerous nieces, nephews, cousins, and friends.
At Roy's request, no services will be held.
