Obituary

Ruth Hazel Zebrasky, 98, of Park Township, Bruno, passed away Tuesday, December 1, 2015 in Mercy Hospital, Moose Lake with family at her side. Ruth was born January 4, 1917 in Sandstone to Albert and Ragnhild (Johnson) Sahlen.
Ruth grew up with her 4 sisters and 1 brother in Sand Creek, Sandstone MN on the homestead her Father and Mother created. Ruth attended Sand Creek School with her siblings, and after school - helped teach English to Swedish speaking parents Albert and Ragnhild. Ruth and her siblings spent many hours swimming and playing in the creek that ran near the homestead. Just when things were going OK at the homestead, the house burned to the ground and the family had to start over.
After graduating from Sandstone High School, Ruth worked in Minneapolis at an ammunitions factory during the war. Ruth met husband John at a dance she attended with some girlfriends. Ruth was united in marriage to John Zebrasky on October 25, 1941 in St. Paul.
Ruth moved with John to east of Bruno after they were married, to carve out another homestead. Ruth and John farmed for many years and raised five (5) children. Times were tough, so John had to find work outside the home to supplement their income – as many other families had to do in rural Minnesota farming areas. Ruth then managed all aspects of the farming operation (in addition to raising a family) while John was away at work.
After John passed in 1990, Ruth moved to a hillside house overlooking Lake Superior for several years, in addition to spending time in California with family, and travelling. However, the countryside where Ruth spent so many years living (Park Township) called her back to reside once again. Ruth spent the remaining years of her life working in her flower gardens and spending cherished time with family. Ruth was a member of Trinity Lutheran Church, Bruno.

Ruth is preceded in death by her husband, John; her parents; 1 grandchild, Greg Schroeder; sisters, Corrine Erickson, Margot Glienke and Violet Landowski.

Ruth is survived by her children, Arlis Schroeder of Woodbury, Diane Spiegel of Encinitas, CA, Cheryl Christensen of Duluth, John Zebrasky of Sandstone and Daryl (Karen) Zebrasky of Park Township, Bruno; 12 grandchildren; 15 great grandchildren; 1 brother, Robert (Lois) Sahlen of Askov and 1 sister, Doris Hamburg of Roscommon, MI.
