Sandra "Sandy" Almquist, 85, Barnum, died peacefully on Friday, June 9, 2023 in Moose Lake Village. She was born on May 13, 1938 to Wallace and Marjorie Landahl in the Swedish Hospital in Minneapolis.
Sandy grew up in Robbinsdale, MN and was confirmed in Luther Memorial Church on Washburn Ave in Mpls. She graduated from Robbinsdale HS and later from Lutheran Bible Institute in Mpls. She worked as a nurse aide and was also a parish worker. On September 3, 1966 Sandy married Robert "Bob" Almquist in Mpls. She was a loving and highly supportive wife to Bob in his higher educational goals of graduating from the University of Minnesota and Lexington Theological Seminary (Kentucky) and in becoming an ordained pastor in the United Methodist Church. Together, they served churches in Iowa, Kentucky, Minnesota and New Hampshire and she served as Bob's assistant, typist, and secretary, providing encouragement, counsel, kindness, and care. She enlightened Bob's life (and many others) with positive energy, empathetic thoughtfulness, compassion, adventure, joy, and love. They loved to travel and appreciated the beauty of the mountains especially in Canada. Sandy was God's faithful servant whose talents and philosophy of life touched countless numbers of people.
Sandy is preceded in death by her husband: Reverend Doctor Robert Almquist in 2022; parents: Wallace and Marjorie Landahl; brother: John Landahl; and sister: Beverly Karbo.
She will be remembered by her brother-in-law Richard Karbo, sister-in-law Karen Landahl, sister-in-law Mavis (Almquist) Schmidt and numerous nieces, nephews, and friends.
A Memorial Service will be held on Friday, June 30, 2023 at 3 pm in Moose Lake United Methodist Church. Private inurnment will take place in Fridsborg Cemetery in East Bethel.
