Obituary

Sandra J. Cheney, 70, of Barnum, died peacefully on Saturday, June 1, 2019.  She was born to Arthur and Louise Fetters on September 1, 1948 in Moose Lake.

Sandy graduated from Barnum High School in 1966 and Itasca Community College in 1967.  On September 16, 1967, she married the love of her life, Vernon Cheney.  Vern and Sandy lived in several locations before settling in Barnum in 1983.

Sandy loved camping and fishing; spending hours in the boat hoping to reel in walleye.  At home, she loved cooking, gardening, crocheting and spending time with her family.  Her true passion was foster care.  Over the years, Vern and Sandy cared for over 100 foster children.  Sandy devoted her life to helping the kids placed in their care.  She loved and cared for every child that came to their home, offering them a warm, loving and safe environment.  Sandy ensured that every child that entered their home always felt loved.

Sandy is preceded in death by her parents and her son Curtis.

Sandy will be dearly missed by her husband of 52 years, Vernon; her children: Tammy Cheney of Barnum, Tricia (Kyle) Riel of Kettle River, Tresta (Wesley) Brown of Lino Lakes, Chris Fetters of Superior and Christopher Luckett-Cheney of Cloquet.  Grandchildren:  Jasmine, Devon, Carter, Jerrick, Bryan and Jason.  Great-granddaughter:  Hannah Claire.  Sister: Linda True of Garland, TX.  Brother's:  Roger Fetters of Moose Lake and Harold (Rhonda) Fetters of Oregon.  Brother's and sister's-in-law, many nieces and nephews and all of the foster kids that she loved and cared for.
