Selma E. Overland
Selma E. Overland, 86, Moose Lake, died peacefully in her sleep at home on Wednesday, August 13, 2008 following a brief but courageous battle with bone cancer. She was born on November 14, 1921 to Jordan and Helga Nelson in Windemere Township, the 12th of 13 children. Selma attended Island Lake School and Willow River High School. She was a member of Blomskog Lutheran Church. On September 19, 1942, she married Alfred Overland in Sturgeon Lake. They lived and worked in Minneapolis until returning to Sturgeon Lake in 1946 to the dairy farm they had purchased. She worked for General Andrews Nursery for over 20 years, assisted with the dairy farm and was a homemaker through the years. Selma loved to clean, cook, and bake and will be remembered especially for her delicious Swedish rye bread. She also organized and made lunch for the annual credit union meeting for 20 years. Selma truly enjoyed entertaining her family and friends. She also was a member of Hope Lutheran Church and a member of Mary's Circle and was a member of the Young at Hearts.
Selma is preceded in death by her Husband, Alfred in 1984; 4 Brothers: Richard Nelson, Harold Nelson, Laurence Nelson, and Victor Nelson; and 6 Sisters: Mabel Anderson, Alice Freeman, Myrtle Mittelstadt, Edith Danielson, Ruby Erickson, and Marcy Mossberg.She will be lovingly remembered by her 3 children: Gordon (Barb) Overland of Sturgeon Lake; Betty (Paul) Horgen of Edina; and Alan (Connie) Overland of Sturgeon Lake; 8 Grandchildren: Lance Overland, Todd (Tiffany) Overland; Bob Overland; Ben (Alisha) Horgen; Rachel (Adam) Ties; Rebekah (Erik) Polzin; Micah Horgen; and Perry (Maija) Robinson; 6 Great Grandchildren: Kayla Overland; Nate Overland; Dakota Overland; Hunter Overland; Norah Polzin; and Emma Jane Ties, whom was born on August 19, 2008; her sisters: Gladys Overland of Sturgeon Lake and T. Evelyn Scheibe of Fort Meyers, FL; a brother-in-law: Winston Mossberg of Sturgeon Lake; and two sister-in-laws: Myrtle Nystrom of Sturgeon Lake and Mary Nelson of Moose Lake and numerous nieces, nephews, and friends. The services were at 11 AM on Monday, August 18, 2008 in Hope Lutheran Church, Moose Lake. Pastor Jan Mehlhoff and Pastor Rollie Mossberg officiated. Casket Bearers were Lance Overland, Todd Overland, Bob Overland, Ben Horgen, Micah Horgen,Nate Overland, and Perry Robinson. Burial was in Blomskog Cemetery, Windemere Twp.
