Shirley JoAnne "Tinny" Lake, died peacefully with her family by her side on Sunday, December 27, 2009 in Mercy Hospital, Moose Lake. She went to heaven on the wings of an angel. She was born February 20, 1935 in Moose Lake to Ernest and Ina (Anderson) Newbloom. Shirley was united in marriage to Leverne Lake on October 24, 1955 in Esko. Shirley began work at Northwestern Bell as a switchboard operator. She later worked at Mercy Hospital as a Nurse's Assistant and X-Ray Technician all while raising 6 children. Shirley was a member of Evangelical Covenant Church of Moose Lake. She was an avid poet and also wrote songs. Shirley enjoyed antiquing and going to garage sales. Shirley especially enjoyed spending time with her family and grandkids. Her life was her family.

Shirley is preceded in death by her parents; 2 grandchildren, Michael Christopher Gamst and Terrance Thomas Lake; 2 brothers, Bud and Thomas Newbloom.

Shirley is survived by her loving husband, Leverne Lake of Moose Lake; 6 children, Susan (Mark) Opdahl of Moose Lake, Vicki (Greg) Gamst of Moose Lake, Thomas (Kathy) Lake of Barnum, Todd Lake of Kettle River, Lisa (Scott) Drewlo of Moose Lake and Rick (Kelly) Lake of Barnum; grandchildren, Christian, Chelsea "Chelly" and Hailee Opdahl, Kim (Leon) Viegel, Joshua (Holly) Gamst, Jenny Gamst, Tara Lake, Tia Lake, Lucas Lake, Theresa Lake, Justin Berglund, Jacob, Jordan and Elisabeth Drewlo, Hunter, Brendan, Landen and Taylor Lake; great grandchildren, Kyle Viegel, Gabrielle, Gracie and Gavin Gamst, Alexis and Jaxson Lake and Makayla Jane Kost; 6 sisters, Lorraine Brown of Moose Lake, Eleanor Dockal of Moose Lake, Marion Folsted of Moose Lake, Delores (Ambrose) Jusczak of Moose Lake, Joyce Thomsen of Poplar, WI and Barbara Sobczak of Moose Lake.

A gathering of family and friends was Wednesday, December 30, from 10 AM until the 11AM Memorial Service in Evangelical Covenant Church, Moose Lake with Pastor Wendy Sorvik officiating.
