Spencer R. Stone, 81, Sturgeon Lake, was surrounded by the love of his family while he peacefully died on Thursday, November 20, 2025 in Essentia-St. Mary's Duluth.  He was born on June 20, 1944 in Coronado, California to Artie and Ruby Stone.  He grew up in Minneapolis and graduated from Roosevelt High School.  Spencer attained a degree in Forestry from the University of MN.  On December 23, 1967, Spencer married Barbara Arnold in Minneapolis.  He began his career with the Minnesota DNR in Alexandria and later moved to Hill City.  In 1979, they moved to Sturgeon Lake and Spencer began working at the General Andrews Tree Nursery in Willow River as an Assistant and retired as Superintendent in 2002.  Spencer was extremely community orientated and loved to serve several organizations and volunteer.  He was actively involved in Hope Lutheran Church, Sturgeon Lake Fire Department, Sturgeon Lake Lions Club, Pine County Historical Society and Museum and their train room; Knotty Pine Wood Carving Group in Proctor, Bloody Thumbs Wood Carving Group in Sturgeon Lake, and the Boy Scouts of America in both Alexandria and Willow River.  Model railroading and wood carving were two hobbies that Spencer enjoyed.

Spencer was preceded in death by his parents: Artie and Ruby Stone; and his son: Michael Stone.

He will be lovingly remembered by his wife of 58 years: Barbara; son: David (Danielle); daughter: Sarah; grandchildren: Adrienne, Emily, Ada, Olen, and Rena; sisters: Jeanette (Chuck) Hall and Mary (John) Voss; brother-in-law and sister-in-law: Dewey and Shirley Arnold; and numerous nieces, nephews, and friends.

A Gathering of Family and Friends will be from 11 am until the Noon Memorial Service on Saturday, December 6, 2025 in Hope Lutheran Church, Moose Lake.  Inurnment will be at a later date in Hill Lake Cemetery, Hill City, MN.
