Obituary

Susan Kay Thompson, 66, of Willow River, MN passed away Sunday, October 19, 2014 in Essentia St. Mary's Medical Center, Duluth. She was born in Mason City, IA on September 11, 1948 to Harland H. and Betty A. (Gehler) Thompson. She attended St. Joseph's Catholic School and Newman High School in Mason City. She attended Clarke College, University of Iowa and graduated from Iowa State University with a B.A. in Education. Susan loved teaching the catholic faith to young students, teaching both at Holy Family and St. Joseph's Catholic Grade Schools in Mason City. She received her M.A. in Education Administration from Clarke College Dubuque, Iowa. She served as principal at Visitation Catholic School, Staceyville, IA, St. Thomas Aquinas Catholic School, Webster City, IA, St. Rose of Lima Catholic School, Denison IA, St. John's Catholic School, Bancroft, IA, and St. Florian Catholic School, Hatley, WI. Upon retiring, she moved to Willow River, MN. Even though she had physical barriers, nothing seemed to keep her down. She loved living in the country alongside her flowers and wildlife. She also was able to do what she loved, teach. She prepared second graders for their sacraments of Reconciliation and Holy Eucharist at Holy Angels Catholic Church, Moose Lake.

Susan is preceded in death by her father (1979), mother (1997) and youngest sister Synthia Osborne ( March 2014).

Susan is survived by sisters, Sherry (William) Bixby of Eden Prairie, MN and Sally (Michael) Sadler of Eagle Grove, IA; Adopted daughter, Shawn (Dale) Holder, Davenport, IA; brother-in-law, Terry Osborne, Brooklyn, IA; nieces and nephews, Jason (Nancy) Bixby, Joshua (Rebecca) Bixby, Hillary (Tom) Poutasse, Amelia Sadler, and Erik Sadler; 6 great nieces, Anna, Elsa, Katherine, Imogen, Eleanor, and Sylvia and 1 great nephew, Ransom. They put a smile on her face daily.

Visitation will be Saturday, October 25 from 9 AM until the 10 AM Mass of Christian Burial in Holy Angels Catholic Church, Moose Lake, MN.

Graveside Services will be held Monday, October 27 at 11 AM in Elmwood Cemetery, Mason City, IA.
