Thomas Eugene Anthony, 87, of Big Hanging Horn Lake, Barnum, formerly of New Brighton, died peacefully on Friday, September 24, 2021 in Augustana Mercy Health Care Center, Moose Lake. He was born on May 15, 1934 to Thomas and Nora Anthony in St. Paul. Tom grew up on the East Side of St. Paul where he attended school. On July 31, 1953, Tom married Joan Gooler in St. Paul. Tom worked for Cassidy Products in St. Paul for many years as a tool & die maker and after its closing owned and operated his own company, Anthony Machine and Tool in New Brighton. He was instrumental member of the St. Paul Rod Nuts Club where they chopped cars and built hot rods and race cars. Tom built one of the first top fuel dragsters in MN with Jim Cassidy and they named it the MN Missile as they traveled around the Upper Midwest racing. Tom was also very dedicated to Boy Scouts. He was a Scout Leader for Troop 299 in New Brighton while his boys were scouts and continued for years after. Tom was also active at the District Level of Lake Wanochi where he was camping director for many years. Since the 1970's, Tom and Joan owned a family cabin on Big Hanging Horn Lake in Barnum and enjoyed many years of lake life. They also traveled, camped, and enjoyed their pet dogs. Tom loved his family and was an incredible husband, dad, and grandpa.
He was preceded in death by his parents: Thomas and Nora Anthony and a sister: Carol Kaiser.
Tom will be lovingly remembered by his wife of 68 years, Joan; 6 children: Linda Airhart; Thomas (Deborah) Anthony, Sr.; Steve (Debbie) Anthony; James (Lori) Anthony; Julie (Dan) Wappel; and Jenny (John) Krabbenhoft; 14 grandchildren; 16 great grandchildren; and numerous nieces and nephews.
A Gathering of Family and Friends will be from 1-4 pm on Friday, October 8, 2021 at Barnum City Park. There will be a short Service of Remembrance at 1:30 pm.
