Obituary

Valarie "Val" Wesley, 70, of Sturgeon Lake, passed away peacefully at Essentia Health in Duluth after a courageous battle with cancer.  She was born on August 30, 1953, in the old Moose Lake Hospital to William and Mavis Wesley of Moose Lake.

Val grew up on the family farm and graduated from Moose Lake High School in 1971 as a member of the National Honor Society.  She gained employment at the Veteran's Affairs Hospital in Minneapolis in 1972.  Her employment continued for the next 42 years until her retirement.  After retirement, she worked as a concierge at The Wellington in St. Paul before deciding to move back home in 2018.

Val enjoyed cooking for others, reading menus, collecting cookbooks and her extensive Alice in Wonderland collection.  She loved reading mysteries and had a vast library of books.  Traveling was a passion and visiting the North Shore was one of her favorite activities.  After moving to Sun Bay, she treasured her time with her neighbors at potluck gatherings.

Val was preceded in death by her father, William Wesley, as well as grandparents, aunts and uncles.  She will be lovingly remembered by her mother, Mavis Wesley, siblings Coral (Bruce) Eskuri, David (Kim) Wesley, Holly (Bob) Bishop, and numerous nieces, nephews, great-nieces and great-nephews and many great friends.

A Celebration of Life will be held on July 21, 2024, from 2 – 5 p.m. at the Lodge at Sun Bay on Sumac Drive North in Sturgeon Lake.  Lunch will be provided.
