Veikko "Vake" E. Taipale, 83, of Sturgeon Lake, passed away Tuesday, November 3, 2015 in Augustana Mercy Health Care Center, Moose Lake. He was born June 19, 1932 in Oulu Township, WI to John and Mary (Jacobson) Taipale. Vake was a graduate of Port Wing High School, Port Wing, WI. Vake was united in marriage to Amy Peterson on June 9, 1951 in Superior, WI. He worked at Potlatch as VP of Transportation and VP of DNE Railroad until retiring in 1993.

Vake is preceded in death by his parents; wife, Amy; daughter, Therese Taipale; brothers, Roy (Silvia), Harvey (Gertie), Leslie (Laila), Eugene (Lillian), Walter and Allen; sisters, Martha (John) Laakso.

Vake is survived by special friend, Dori Scheinbein of Barnum; 3 children, Steven (Monica) Taipale of Stockholm, Sweden, Daniel (Michelle) Taipale of Elk River and Kathleen (Lynden) Johnson of Eagan; grandchildren, Aaron (Amber) Johnson, Angela (Brian) Hauth, Christopher (Ashley) Taipale, Traci Taipale, Amy, Mandy, Molly and Mickey Algeborg, Josh (Jacki) Levitas and Sara (Mike) Krivak; great grandchildren, Carter Johnson, Ethan Hauth, Bryce Taipale and Lilly and Daven Levitas; sisters-in-law, Bernice Taipale and Joanne O'Conner; several nieces and nephews.

A gathering of family and friends will be Saturday, November 14, 2015, from 10 AM until the 11 AM Memorial Service in Hope Lutheran Church, Moose Lake.
