Vergene I. Witz

Vergene I. Witz, 84, Barnum, peacefully passed away on Thursday, July 5, 2012 while being surrounded by wonderful friends: Jessica Tate and Cathy Nielsen and her son and his family: Bill, Lena, and Amber Witz.


Vergene was born on September 11, 1927 in Cloquet to Henry and Etta Otten. On November 3, 1945, Vergene married Carl Witz in Wright. She loved working as a home health aide and also loved to farm. Vergene's favorite pastime was to make cakes for weddings, birthdays, and other special occasions.


She was preceded in death by her husband: Carl Witz; her parents: Etta and Henry Otten; 2 sisters; 1 brother; and a very special grandson: Michael Witz.
Vergene will be lovingly remembered by her son: Bill (Lena) Witz of Barnum and her daughter: Corrine Halvorson of McGregor; one sister: Lillian Otten of Minneapolis; a grandchild: Amber Witz whom the family thanks for being so comforting to Grandma and she loved you bunches; and a grandchild: Melissa Halvorson whom the family thanks for being with Grandma every Friday and bringing Everett to see Grandma; and more special grandchildren; great grandchildren; and one niece: Vivian (Frank) Hood.

A Gathering of Family and Friends will be from 10 am until the 11 am Memorial Service on Thursday, July 12, 2012 in Salem Lutheran Church, Mahtowa. Pastor Noah Johnson will officiate. After the memorial service, lunch will be served at the church followed by a inurnment in Wright.
