Vernon "Vern" Leslie Coil, 94, of Moose Lake, passed away Friday, May 16, 2014 in Oakview Assisted Living, Moose Lake. Vern was born January 4, 1920 in Wessington Springs, SD to Melvin and Thelma (Paddick) Coil. When Vern was 6, he moved to Paynesville for a short time before moving to Kerrick where he attended school. He helped on the farm after high school before serving in the Army during WWII from 1941-1945. Vern then returned home and began farming dairy cows and later beef cattle. Vern was united in marriage to Cecelia M. Keyport on April 24, 1948 in Kerrick. Vern also managed the Moose Lake Co-op Feed Mill for 5 years before becoming a custodian at Moose Lake School where he worked for 21 years. Vern was a member of Cloverleaf Chapter #4-D.A.V., Moose Lake American Legion Post #379, Knights of Columbus and Holy Angels Catholic Church, Moose Lake. Vern enjoyed hunting and fishing and loved his family.
Vern is preceded in death by his parents; 2 sons, Terry and Thomas; baby brother, Francis LuVerne; 1 brother, Howard Neumeyer; 1 sister, Lena Eaton.
Vern is survived by his loving wife of 66 years, Cecelia Coil of Moose Lake; 3 sons, Duane (Lisa) Coil of Sturgeon Lake, Tim (Karen) Coil of St. Cloud and Kevin (Majella) Coil of Sturgeon Lake; 1 daughter, Maureen (James) Gassert of Moose Lake; 20 grandchildren; 19 great grandchildren; many nieces and nephews.
A gathering of family and friends will be Wednesday, May 21 from 10 AM until the 11 AM Mass of Christian Burial in Holy Angels Catholic Church, Moose Lake.
