Victor A. Waletzko
Victor A. Waletzko, 80, Willow River, died peacefully on Wednesday, December 18, 2013 at Oakview Assisted Living, Moose Lake.
Vic was born May 31,1933 on the family farm in Norman Township. He graduated from Willow River High School in 1951. After high school, Vic farmed with his parents, Chester and Jennie Waletzko. He served in the United States Army as a mechanic from 1953 to 1955 and was stationed in France. Vic returned to farm with his parents, taking over in 1961. On September 15, 1973, Victor married Jane Hansen at Holy Trinity Lutheran Church, Lakefield, MN. Following in his father's footsteps, Vic owned and drove school bus for the Willow River School District from 1955 until 2006. For 51 years, he enjoyed watching the bus kids grow. He appreciated when adults shared memories from their school bus days. In 2008, Victor was honored to be selected as the Grand Marshall for the Willow River Days Parade. Victor was a member of St. Mary's Catholic Church and the Popek-Kostecky American Legion Post #163 of Willow River. He served on the AMPI Board, American Dairy Association Board, Norman Township Board, and Askov Coop Board. Victor enjoyed deer hunting with his children and friends.
He was preceded in death by his parents: Chester and Jennie Waletzko; sister: Helen Bueltel; and two brothers-in-law Tim Horak and Orville Blair.
Victor will be lovingly remembered by his wife of 40 years: Jane; three children: LeAnn Waletzko and husband Eric Voss of Brooklyn, NY; Brian Waletzko of Minneapolis; and Philip Waletzko and wife Alicia of LaCrosse, WI; two sisters: Hattie Blair of Roseville, MN and Clara Horak of Wyndmere, ND; and numerous nieces, nephews, and cousins.
Visitation will be from 2-4 PM Sunday, December 22, 2013 at Hamlin-Hansen-Kosloski Funeral Home, Moose Lake and continue Monday, December 23, 2013 at St. Mary's Center from Noon until the 1 PM Mass of Christian Burial at St. Mary's Catholic Church, Willow River. Burial will be in St. Mary's Catholic Cemetery, Willow River. Military Honors will be performed by Willow River American Legion Post #163 and Sturgeon Lake-Denham American Legion Post #361.
