Viola "Vi" Eppenberger

Viola "Vi" Eppenberger, 87, Giese, died suddenly and peacefully on Thursday, June 10, 2010 in Pine Medical Center, Sandstone. She was born on June 23, 1922 in Humphrey, Nebraska to Martin and Emma Schweiger. At the age of 6, Vi moved to South Dakota with her family until moving to Wagner Twp. in Aitkin County at the age of 12. She attended Wagner Country School and later attended McGrath High School. On October 8, 1940, Vi married Thomas Eppenberger in St. Anthony's Catholic Church in McGrath. They lived in Williams Twp. and later Wagner Twp. where they farmed. In 1982, they moved near Giese. Vi worked for many years as a cook at the McGrath School. She was also a very active member of Our Lady of Fatima Catholic Church in McGrath. Vi also volunteered at the nursing home in Sandstone for several years. She liked gardening, watching birds, visiting people, and playing cards. Vi truly loved her family and especially had a great love for her grandchildren, great grandchildren, and great great grandchildren whom she would pray for every night while praying the Rosary.

Vi was preceded in death by her husband, Thomas in 1998; her parents: Martin and Emma Schweiger; three brothers: Joe, Ed, and Tony Schweiger; a sister-in-law: Helen Schweiger; and her
two great granddaughters: Hannah Kosloski and Kaylie Eppenberger.

She will be lovingly remembered by her three children: Irene (Willie) Couture of Cloquet; Dale Eppenberger of Circle Pines; and Sandra (Larry) Schoenrock of Finlayson; a daughter-in-law: Lorraine Eppenberger of Circle Pines; three sister-in-laws: Ruth Schweiger of Watertown, SD; Susie Schweiger of Sandstone; and LaHoma Eppenberger of Finlayson; 12 grandchildren: Jim, Richard, Michael, Theresa, Brad, Brenda, Bryon, Troy, Tim, Rob, Angela, and Randy; many great grandchildren and great great grandchildren.

Visitation was on Monday, June 14, 2010 from 6-8 PM with a Rosary Service at 7 PM in Our Lady of Fatima Catholic Church, McGrath and continue at the church on Tuesday, June 15, 2010 from 1:00 PM until the 2:00 PM Mass of Christian Burial. Father Paul Fruth was the celebrant. Casket Bearers were Jim Kosloski, Richard Kosloski, Michael Kosloski, Brad Eppenberger, Bryon Eppenberger, Troy Schoenrock, Tim Schoenrock, Rob Schoenrock, and Randy Schoenrock. Burial was in St. Joseph's Catholic Cemetery, Finlayson.
