Virgil H. Kuhlman
Virgil H. Kuhlman, 83, Moose Lake, died peacefully on Monday, March 2, 2009 at his home with his family by his side. He was born on June 3, 1925 in Ruthton, MN to Edward and Lily Kuhlman. At the age of 13, he moved to Tamarack and attended McGregor High School. Virgil was confirmed at St. John's Lutheran Church in Wright. He later moved to Kettle River where he farmed with his parents until 1943 when he entered the United States Navy. Virgil proudly served his country and was a Veteran of WWII and the Korean War. On September 7, 1952, Virgil married Margaret Hocklander in Barnum. They lived in Kingsley, Iowa where Virgil farmed. In 1956, they moved to Moose Lake and Virgil began working at the Power Plant. He also owned a gravel pit and rock crushing business, and hauled many loads of gravel around the community. Virgil and Margaret purchased the Laundromat in Moose Lake in 1967 which they owned and operated for over 20 years before selling the business to their son. Virgil also plowed snow for many people around town. He was a very active member of St. Peter's Lutheran Church in Moose Lake. Virgil was also a member of the Pederson-Maunula American Legion Post #379 of Moose Lake. Every 4th of July you could find Virgil calling American Legion Bingo numbers down at the park. He devoted many hours volunteering for the Moose Lake Food Shelf. He truly enjoyed his family and loved to attend his grandchildren's events. Virgil also liked to help out at his son's farm. He enjoyed working on woodcrafts, and visiting with his friends over coffee at Art's Cafe.
He was preceded in death by his parents, Edward and Lily Kuhlman.
Virgil will be lovingly remembered by his wife of 56 years, Margaret; three sons: Bob (Linda) Kuhlman of Kettle River; Ray (Rose) Kuhlman of Moose Lake; and Dean (Jennifer) Kuhlman of Esko; a daughter: Cindy (Gary) Wendorf of Rush City; nine grandchildren: Noah (Michelle) Wendorf; Brittany Wendorf; Nate Wendorf; Amy Kuhlman; Ashley (Brandon) Scheer; Katie Kuhlman; Karson Kuhlman; Jack Kuhlman; and Zack Kuhlman; three brothers: Clarence Kuhlman of Downers Grove, IL; Milon Kuhlman of Superior, WI; and Elmer Kuhlman of Garden Grove, CA; five sisters: Dorothy Landsverk of Fountain Valley, CA; Lavona Meiners of Caledonia, MN; Geneva Pelquin of North St. Paul, MN; Myrtle Gipe of Cerritos, CA; and Ethel Bleninger; and numerous nieces, nephews, and friends.
Visitation was from 5-7 PM Thursday March 5, 2009 in Hamlin-Hansen-Kosloski Funeral Home, Moose Lake and continue from 1:00 until the 2:00 PM service on Friday, March 6, 2009 in St. Peter's Lutheran Church, Moose Lake. Pastor Brad Vogt did officiate. Bev Vavra was the organist. Virgil's Grandchildren were the Casket Bearers. Military Honors were accorded by the Pederson-Maunula American Legion Post #379 of Moose Lake. Cremation did follow the services with spring inturnment in St. Peter's Lutheran Cemetery, Silver Twp.
