Obituary

Warren John Thompson, age 53, of Seattle, Washington, passed away on Friday, May 2, 2025 in Santa Cruz, California.

Warren was born August 17, 1971, in Superior, Wisconsin, to John David and Judy (Beetcher) Thompson. He spent most of his growing years from age 6 in Cuyahoga Falls, Ohio, graduating from Cuyahoga Falls High School. At the age of 16, Warren began his lifelong commitment to veganism, spurred by his dedication to ending animal cruelty and protecting the Earth.

While in his teens, Warren honed his skills as a drummer; he loved music and the power it holds in building connections. He became part of several noteworthy bands in both Ohio and Minnesota.

In 1992, Warren took part in the Ride for the Children (Cyclists Ending Hunger) joining the group as it entered Ohio and culminating in San Francisco, California. After high school, Warren worked as a cook in the Zephyr Pub in Kent, Ohio, before relocating to Minneapolis, Minnesota.

Warren spent part of his adult life in Minneapolis, working at the Hub Bicycle Coop and also at the Wedge Community Co-op Market. He eventually moved to Seattle, Washington, where he was employed by WA Pivot Metal Works and also did construction work.

"Widget", as he was known by some of his friends, always wanted to be of help to people, and never a burden. A quote from Warren:

"I think that sometimes the best way to express your love for anyone is by giving them good food. Personal or in general, everyone has a right to enjoy a good meal. That's the reason I have volunteered my time when I could because the appreciation was genuine."

Above all, he cherished his friendships. His sense of humor was second only to his love of animals. He was passionate about helping those in need, and would never hesitate to come to a friend's aid.

Warren is survived by his mother, Judy (Dale) Johnson, of Sturgeon Lake, Minnesota; his sister, Barbara Thompson, of Bowie, Maryland; and uncles, aunts, cousins, and the many friends that he loved dearly.

Warren was preceded in death by his father, John David Thompson; his paternal grandparents, Ingvald and Esther Thompson; and his maternal grandparents, Elmer and Ruby Beetcher.

A graveside service will be held prior to interment in Greenwood Cemetery, Superior, Wisconsin, on June 21, 2025, at 11:00 a.m., with Warren being buried next to his father, John. A luncheon will follow at Barker's Island Inn, Superior, Wisconsin.

Arrangements are being handled by Hamlin Hansen Kosloski Funeral Home in Moose Lake, MN.

A gathering of friends in Minneapolis is being planned for the evening of June 21, 2025.
