Obituary

Wayne John Newhouse, 93, Moose Lake, MN, passed away on Monday, November 2, 2026, with his family at his side.

Wayne was born on June 2, 1933, in Kaukauna, WI. to Myra (Endter) and Wesley Newhouse of Freedom WI. He graduated from Freedom HS in 1952 and continued to the University of WI earning a degree in Agronomy. After graduation, he went into the Army for 2 years. While in the Army, Wayne served in Germany for 17 months and fortunately, he was not there during any war time. Upon his return, he married the love of his life Muriel Feldkamp on Aug 28, 1958. They were married for 61 years, until her passing in 2019. Wayne and Muriel started their married life in Toledo, OH where he was a Federal Grain Inspector. It was here that their first son, David, was born. In 1960, he was transferred to Milwaukee, WI and it was here that Kevin and Diane were born. In 1963, he was transferred to the Twin Cities, where their last child Janel was born. Finally, in 1967 he was transferred to Duluth and raised their family. Wayne retired from the Federal Grain Inspection Service in 1989. Wayne enjoyed gardening, working outside, bowling, woodworking, traveling and was a very meticulous Christmas cookie decorator. Wayne was also well known for his wonderful Old Fashions he would make. He delivered for Meals on Wheels and was a Eucharistic minister at St. Johns in Duluth and Holy Angles in Moose Lake. He was also a member of the Knights of Columbus. When the family was young, they took their Bethany pop up camper and traveled all over the States. It was a simpler life back then and gave our family such good memories that will never be forgotten. In his retirement years, he decided to go back to work part time for Sears working in the hardware department which he did for many years. In 2002, Wayne and Muriel moved to Moose Lake, MN and started lake living on Sand Lake. They also had a big garden and produced many wonderful vegetables for Muriel to can. In their traveling days they went to Holland, Oberammergau to see the Passion Play, Rome, Italy and went many years to the Hostfest in North Dakota with dear friends seeing many wonderful entertainers, which led them to visit Norway. Wayne and Muriel also would travel to Florida and visit friends and family along the way, with the final destination Ft. Myers. After Muriel's passing, Wayne continued to go to Florida with Janel and her husband, until his health declined and was no longer able to go. Wayne was always willing to help anyone that needed help and always had a smile on his face. He was the nicest man you could ever meet. Our loss is Heaven's gain.

Wayne is preceded in death by his wife, Muriel; parents: Wesley and Myra Newhouse, sister: Dolores Dresang; brother: Wesley “Bud” Newhouse; sisters-in-law: Joan Newhouse, Renee Heim, and Judith Hoffmann; and brother-in-law: Maurice Dresang.

He is survived by children David (Amy) Newhouse; Kevin (Sue) Newhouse; Diane (Steve) Connolly; and Janel (Danny) Swanson; grandchildren: William and Isabel Newhouse, Izaak and Noah Newhouse, Erica (Patrick) Murlowski, Kathleen (Thomas) George, and Mary and Elizabeth Connolly; great grandchildren: Connor and Gabriel Murlowski; Lily; and Maximilion and Augustine George; honorary grandchildren: Jamie and Presley Koski; brothers-in-law: James (Julane) Feldkamp, George Hoffmann, Dennis (Bonnie) Feldkamp, and Dave (Mary) Heim.

The family would like to thank St Croix Hospice for the wonderful care given to Wayne. With special thanks to Briana for being with us for this entire journey.

Visitation will be from 5-7 pm with a prayer service at 6:30 pm in Hamlin-Hansen-Kosloski Funeral Home, Moose Lake on Thursday, November 12, 2026.
