William "Bill" John Winter, age 75, of Kettle River, MN, passed away June 27, 2015, with family by his side. Bill was born June 9, 1940, to Joseph W. and Helen (Floren) Winter in Northfield, MN. He grew up on the family farm, graduated from high school, and served in the U.S. Navy. He married Alice Novak and had four children before moving to Kettle River in the early '70s with second wife Joan (Trnka Fink). They gardened and worked side-by-side for many years, proudly owning their own gas station/grocery store. After selling the station, Bill drove truck and was a professional fishing guide until retirement. He and Joan enjoyed many wonderful years together at Lake Kabetogama, fishing with family and friends.

He will be dearly remembered by children Bill Jr. (Mary Jo), Laura (Lonny) Slinger, Mark (Tammy) and Patrick (Tammy); step-daughters Laureen Fink Carlson and Stacia (Len) Fink Goodman; 12 grandkids; 3 great grandchildren; brother Robert (Lila); sisters Rosie Pexa, Patricia Otte, Katherine (Robert) Vesledahl, Jeanne Simpson, Terry (Ken) Hausen, Julia (JoAnne) Winter, and Kristine (DuWayne) Norberg.

Bill was preceded in death by wife Joan, his parents, and brother-in-law George Pexa.

Memorial lunch noon to 3 p.m., Saturday, July 18, at the Kettle River, MN, City Hall.
