William "Bill"
R. Hall
January 3, 1932 – November 22, 2017
Bill and Lou Hall entered into Heaven just days apart from one another continuing their Love Story.
Louise (Lou) Anne Hall, 86, of Moose Lake, Minnesota, passed away peacefully at Mercy Hospital with family by her side on November 18, 2017.
Less than 4 days later on November 22, 2017, her beloved husband William (Bill) Robert Hall, 85, of Moose Lake, Minnesota, passed away peacefully at home with family by his side.
Lou was born on January 22, 1931 in Sioux Falls, South Dakota to Oscar and Mabel (Hoyme) Hammer. She grew up on the family farm near Baltic, SD; graduating from Baltic High School in 1949. Lou attended South Dakota State and went on to work in the office at the John Morrell Company in Sioux Falls.
Bill was born on January 3, 1932 in Chamberlain, South Dakota to Edgar and Emma (Tripp) Hall. He grew up in Vivian, SD; graduating from Vivian High School in 1950. Bill attended South Dakota State under the ROTC program earning an Industrial Arts degree. He served as First Lieutenant in the United States Army.
Bill and Lou met in the spring of 1952 at a St. Patrick's Day Dance in Dell Rapids, SD. Bill always said it was the luckiest day of his life. The two were married on August 21, 1954 at East Nidaros Church, Baltic, SD. Through Bill's military service, they were stationed at Fort Benning, Georgia, and in Germany where their son Daniel was born.
They returned to Brookings, SD where Bill completed an Electrical Engineering degree at South Dakota State. While in Brookings their daughter Lori was born. Bill's career with Boeing led their family to Wichita, Kansas where Bill and Lou's third child Debra was born. In 1963 they moved to Huntsville, Alabama, where Bill worked on the Apollo Space Program while Lou took time to focus on their family and serve others through volunteering as a scout leader, "room mother", and Sunday School teacher.
After a short stay in Santa Maria, California, the Hall family moved in 1970 to Moose Lake, Minnesota when they purchased Moose Lake Florists which they successfully owned and operated for 26 years. Bill and Lou were actively involved in FTD District 7E and Lou earned several awards for her talented creative floral arranging. In 1996 they retired and spent time traveling, going to sporting events, visiting with friends at Subway and McDonalds, and spending time with their grandchildren Steven, Cyndi, Brendon, and Bryceton.
Being an active member in the community and volunteering were an important aspect of their lives. They gave whole heartedly of their time, talents, and treasure to all they encountered. Both were members of Hope Lutheran Church in Moose Lake serving as chairpersons on a variety of committees, supporting youth, and ushering even up until this past June. They volunteered at Moose Lake Senior Dining delivering meals through the "Meals on Wheels" program. As members of the Moose Lake Commercial Club, they chaired and served on committees promoting 4th of July Celebrations, Miss Moose Lake, Agate Days, Sidewalk Days, Corn Days, Art in the Park, and Santa Visits. They were honored when they were chosen as Grand Marshals for the Annual 4th of July Parade in 1996.
Lou was a member of the Mercy Hospital Auxiliary, volunteered at Augustana Health Care Center, a member of the Moose Lake Historical Society, and served on the Moose Lake Cemetery Board. She enjoyed playing cards, especially bridge every week with her friends, and was a member of the Red Hats. Lou collected Hallmark ornaments and was a Charter Member of the National Hallmark Keepsake Ornament Club and the former president of the local Frosty Friends Ornament Club in Duluth, MN. She was known as the "hat lady" as she faithfully wore a hat to church on Sundays.
Bill was a member of the Kiwanis Club of Moose Lake and was awarded the Kiwanis Legion of Honor and the George F. Hixson Fellowship. He was honored to have served as the chairperson of the 1976 Bicentennial Celebration held in Moose Lake. Bill also belonged to the Frosty Friends Ornament Club and was often called, "Mr. Lou". Bill enjoyed listening to and recording big band music, reading, solving crossword puzzles, Sudoku, and watching the History Channel especially "Ancient Aliens".
Both Bill and Lou took pride in our country and were honored to share their patriotism with others. Bill was the current Adjutant/Membership Chair and the former Commander for Pederson-Maunula American Legion Post 379, Moose Lake. Lou was the current President of the American Legion Auxiliary Unit 379. They were both involved at the District 8 level serving in leadership roles and on committees.
